This was the home of the famed Cypriot sculptor Pygmalion, he is the famous sculptor who has been shown to be carving a woman from ivory and in Ovid's Metamorphoses X he was portrayed as the sculptor who fell in love with this lady of ivory. The legend has it, that Pygmalion gave his statue gifts and even prayed to Venus, who heard his prayers and granted them. His prayers of course were to have his beloved woman of ivory come to life, which she did and she and Pygmalion married and she bore him two daughters.
